Family walks in Camberley, Farnborough and Frimley

Are you heading out for a family walk in the Camberley, Farnborough & Frimley area? We have rounded up some of the best routes and places to walk, toddle, wander or explore.

Surrey Heath Borough Council have produced this helpful map of parks and open spaces in Camberley, Frimley, Lightwater and beyond. Some of our walks are in these places and some are in Farnborough.

'Water Ways Walk', Farnborough

The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust have created this water ways walk in Farnborough. This is circular walks starting at the Canal Centre in Mytchett. It may be a little long for little legs but a section of it could be completed as it is flat and buggy friendly. More details of this walk can be found here.

Walk on the Wildside of Sandhurst

The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust have created this 'Walk on the Wildside of Sandhurst' walk. This is a circular walk which starts at Sandhurst Memorial Park and passes through Blackwater Meadows, Sandhurst and Wildmoor Heath. Some of the terrain is bumpy and the full route is around 4 miles so consider completing a shorter section with little legs and buggies! More details can be found here.

This route will take you alongside the river, through parkland, meadows, heathland and bog, showing the variety of habitats present along the Valley.

Watchmoor Reserve, Camberley

Watchmoor Reserve is linked to Crabtree Park by a footbridge. Watchmoor Reserve has been landscaped to encourage wildlife. There are wooden sculptures and lakes so it makes for a pleasant walk (or toddle). Find more details here.

Windlesham Arboretum

The Windle Brook runs through the Arboretum and has seven main footbridges. There are approximately ten ponds, some of which are more properly identifiable as lakes based on size. The land and lakes, including a scattered number of buildings, altogether consist of just over 1 square kilometre. The Windlesham Society have a walk through the area - see details here.

Barossa

Barossa Common is a large area managed by the military. It is a great place for adventuring with bigger kids. Find more details about Barossa here.

Lightwater Country Park

Lightwater Country Park has grassy area and woodlands to walk with your family. It's a great place to feed the ducks and enjoy a picnic. There is a coffee shop on site* but if you fancy a trip to a local pub, The Red Lion pub is located outside the park on the main road. This is an easy, dog-friendly walk. Hawley Woods, Minley

Hawley Woods is the perfect place for an easy, dog-friendly woodland and lakeside walk. The Crown and Cushion pub* is a in a great spot for a family drink stop after your walk. Find more details about Hawley Woods here.

Hawley Meadows

Hawley Meadows is an important river floodplain site, with a wet grassland habitat supporting a wide range of wildlife. It is situated near Camberley on the border between Surrey and Hampshire. Enjoy this child friendly walk from Hampshire County Council which even includes a story to tell!

Frimley Lodge Park

Frimley Lodge Park is a large park with lots of facilities (please check to see which of these have reopened) including a cafe. What a wonderful place for a family walk! There is plenty of open space and woodland with lots of picnic areas. Dogs are allowed off-lead at Frimley Lodge Park but must be kept under control. From Frimley Lodge Park you can extneded a short family walk along the Basingstoke Canal to feed the ducks.

Basingstoke Canal

The Basingstoke Canal and Blackwater Valley have a towpath trail which is suitable for buggies and walkers. There are eight miles of accessible path here so set off for a walk - long or short!
